Do the gospels ever mention how Jesus and the 12 supported themselves during Jesus' ministry?

The only information we have is from Luke 8:1-3, which mentions a certain group of women of means, who contributed to Jesus and His disciples' support. It is possible that the entire support for the ministry band came from these women, or from them along with other contributors whose names are not given.

Also, there were people, like Lazarus and his sisters, who sometimes fed and lodged Jesus and His disciples, when they were in the area. It is possible that most meals and sleeping arrangements were provided through such hospitality.

It seems clear that Jesus and the disciples did not carry on their normal trades (e.g., carpentry, fishing, tax collecting) during the ministry years. Therefore they must have lived off the generosity and the hospitality of appreciative donors.

It would appear that, after Jesus' departure, the apostles and other preachers (with the exception of Paul and Barnabas—1 Cor.9:6) continued to "live from the gospel"(1 Cor.9:14)—that is, from contributions.

Luke 9 wrote:
1 And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. 2 And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing. 3 And He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not even have two tunics apiece. 4 “Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that city. 5 “And as for those who do not receive you, as you go out from that city, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” 6 Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.

Though after Jesus' earthly ministry and not exactly responsive to your specific question, I find this particularly interesting as to His instructions to His Apostles. They were specifically instructed to take nothing (implying I guess there was a common purse during Jesus' ministry). And it sounds like they were to do this to measure in a sense whether the Spirit was working in the place they were teaching -- if not, move on -- if so, they'll be supported. Much like what I have heard Steve say about his own ministry so many times.
